Love's Lost Tale II. At midnight - III. Buried Love

Back

Original Composition by Tim Vallier Poetry by Sara Teasdale II. At Midnight Now at last I have come to see what life is, Nothing is ever ended, everything only begun, And the brave victories that seem so splendid Are never really won. Even love that I built my spirit's house for, Comes like a brooding and a baffled guest, And music and man's praise and even laughter Are not so good as rest. III. Buried Love I have come to bury Love Beneath a tree, In the forest tall and black Where none can see. I shall put no flowers at her head, Nor stone at her feet, For the mouth I loved so much Was bittersweet. I shall go no more to her grave, For the woods are cold. I shall gather as much of joy As my hands can hold. I shall stay all day in the sun Where the wide winds blow, -- But oh, I shall cry at night When none will know.
