James Sutton & Liz McClarnon Find Donors Part 1

Back

POPSTAR Liz McClarnon has been out and about recruiting bone marrow lifesavers in the city centre. The 27-year-old Atomic Kitten was joined by Hollyoaks actor James Sutton in drumming up support for an Anthony Nolan Trust bone marrow clinic in the ECHO's atrium last night. The clinic was inspired by the plight of Southport children Ella and Sam Wright who desperately need a bone marrow transplant, and the recent death of campaigning reporter Adrian Sudbury, who worked at the ECHO's sister paper, the Huddersfield Examiner. Liz's efforts were filmed for Noel Edmond's new show Noel's HQ, which launches on SKY1 on September 14. The basic principal of the show is to encourage the public to perform everyday random acts of kindness -- in an effort to show that it's the small things that make the biggest difference. Liz said: "If you give blood you can help someone a lot in their life. If you give bone marrow you could save someone's life - it's as if someone was drowning and you help them out of the water." Potential donors need to be aged between 18 and 40 and in good health. Donors who are male or from ethnic minorities are in short supply. You can also join the register by calling 0901 8822234 for an information pack. Log on to www.anthonynolan.org.uk/ in the UK or www.bmdw.org/ to find bone marrow registers worldwide. Those between 40 and 44 can join The British Bone Marrow Registry by calling 0845 771 1711
