Short clips of: Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Yoko Ono/IMA, Sonic Youth, Rage Against the Machine at the Tibetan Freedom Concert on June 15/16, 1996 at Golden Gate Park. This was all shot on my parents GAF "Colt 84" Super 8 film camera that they received as a wedding gift in 1971. The audio was recorded on a Sony D3 Professional Analog deck with external microphone. I taped several of the bands over the two days. For a whopping two minutes I even filmed some of the bands. I had to closely listen to the audio for the sound of the film camera in order to sync up the sound. I couldn't find my audio of the Foo Fighters so I had to substitute a soundboard recording of the same show. Keep in mind this was "the old days" before you could just whip out your cellphone and get a 40 second clip of your favorite band and then send it to all your friends. Ok, we are now entering "get off my lawn" territory but to do this video I had to: * Shell out $12 for a 3 min cartridge of black and white Super 8 film. * Build a false bottom into my backpack to hold the film camera, batteries, the Sony D3, and five 90 min tapes. * Smuggle all the stuff into the show * Tape/film the shows. Mail everything home, hike the Pacific Crest Trail for the rest of 1996. * Develop film, another $10. So that is about $7.50 per minute we are looking at. * Wait a few years, have a friend transfer the Super 8 to VHS * Wait another few years for decent video/audio software to come into the hands of the common man and sync the two up. * Upload to Youtube, 12 years later.
